A PRODUCT FOR THE TREATMENT OF CANCER

Cancer remains a major and growing clinical and economic burden worldwide

Present treatments are either ineffective or have serious side effects on healthy cells. Thus, the traditional approach in the fight against cancer will not eliminate this disease, but instead contribute to the mortality of cancer patients.

Our Breakthrough Approach

In cancer cells, high molecular weight biopolymers form a hyperdense glycocalyx – the external surface of a cell - which provides a physical barrier against toxic agents to the cancer cell. We have developed a nanoparticle structure which recognizes this unique tumour glycocalyx and selectively kills disease cells This is achieved by a hyper-tetany contraction of the membrane of the disease cells. Yet the nanoparticles are non-toxic to normal cells or tissues in the body.

Our innovation is the only effective anti-cancer agent that does not damage healthy cells. This is indeed a gamechanger in the treatment of cancer.

Preliminary evidence

Three nude mice (8 weeks old) were inoculated subcutaneously at the knee with MCF-7, a human breast cancer cell line. Two of the mice were treated with an intravenous injection of nanoparticles. After 35 days, no tumour was observed in the knees of the treated mice. No signs of toxicity were observed in the treated mice. No damage or abnormality of the main organs (heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys) was observed, as judged by MRI

Intellectual property

Initial UK patent application filed with broad claims. The UK Patent Office search report is positive — no objections raised to the main claims. Plenty of time to consider global patent filings. Additional filings planned around platform extensions.

The originators

Indigena Biodiversity represents a British company called UCP Oncology Solutions Limited.

We are seeking a company to develop and market this antiviral treatment for cancer, taking a licence under the patents.
